“The role of Education is to advance and empower you, our next generation of leadership, to maximize your opportunity so that you can be successful in life.” – TJ Dow, 1997 Ball State University Youth Empowerment Summit

TJ Dow grew up in Tampa, Florida to parents who valued education. His mother instilled in him, early on, that without an education his opportunities would be limited and made education a number one priority in his daily life. Because of this strong family support, TJ Dow took his education seriously and excelled in high school. After receiving his high school diploma he knew, without question, that he had to go further. No stranger to hard work and commitment, he worked several full time and part time jobs to fund his education. TJ Dow graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana where he received a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Political Science.  In college, TJ Dow excelled as both a scholar and a campus leader.  He earned the distinction of several awards including the Campus Leadership Award, President’s Academic Award and Deans List. TJ Dow also served as President of the Paralegal Club and achieved over 500 service hours in two years. Thereafter, in May 2001, TJ Dow received both a Juris Doctor and Master of Public Administration from Cleveland State University. While in graduate school, TJ Dow remained balanced. While he excelled academically, he was also active in Student Government, the National Black Law Student Association (NBLSA) and as a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. TJ Dow was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 2001. As an attorney, TJ Dow worked as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He also worked in education as an Instructor at a local college teaching courses in Speech, Criminal Justice, Critical Thinking, Corrections, Principles of Success, and Professional Development. Most recently TJ Dow was elected to serve as the Councilman of Ward 7 in Cleveland, Ohio. TJ Dow attributes education to being the key to opening the doors to his opportunities. Grateful for his opportunities and grounded in the lesson of Luke 12:48, “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted much, much more will be asked,” TJ Dow is committed and passionate about inspiring the next generation of leaders.  In 1997, he founded The Dow Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to contribute to the preparation of youth through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, diversity and education. Since its inception, more than 5000 young people have participated in the foundation’s Empowering Youth through Leadership & Education Summit in various cities across the United States (U.S.).  TJ Dow is also the host of The Community Report Radio Show, a Cleveland area radio program that caters to, among other topics, youth issues and interests from a national perspective. TJ Dow has authored books on helping children achieve success in the areas of education, leadership and health.  He has recently published the two books in a three part series, entitled, “The Success Factor:  Educational Excellence Through Personal Experience” and “The Success Factor:  Lessons in Leadership Through Personal Experience.”  And the final book entitled, “The Success Factor:  Health and Fitness Through Personal Experience” is due out this coming Fall.  From his exceptional educational achievements, to his great work inspiring the next generation of leaders, as a broadcaster, author, advocate and entrepreneur, TJ Dow is an inspiration and outstanding role model for anyone and everyone who values education.
